Tributes have poured in for 22-year-old country football talent Terry Brown, after an incident at Boomerang Beach on the New South Wales’ mid-north coast on Sunday morning.

A halfback for the Blayney Bears in the state's central west, the dynamic number seven was set to play for the Indigenous side at the inaugural Group 10 All Stars game in Cowra this weekend.

But the promising young talent has been missing since Sunday morning.

Mr Brown, a Wiradjuri man from Orange, was visiting with family and friends when he jumped off the headland at Boomerang Beach, near Forster, on the state’s mid-north coast, police say.

Manning Great Lakes local area command acting superintendent Allan Fidock says the search will continue on Tuesday.

"We are searching today, working under the advisement of the marine area command and the marine search rescue advisors. We’re redoing search grids and patterns, obviously the search area has moved a bit south along the coastline,’ he told SBS News.

Witness statements provided to police indicate Terry was last seen when he jumped off the headland, a known dangerous jump spot, about 7.15am on Sunday morning. He was the first one to jump.

"Young ones will go down and jump off it, you've got to jump out a fair way to make it safely," Acting Supt. Fidock said.

According to his friends, Mr Brown resurfaced face down in the water and covered in blood. However, he disappeared afterwards.

Police are now treating the search for Mr Brown as a recovery operation.

Tributes flow for Terry

Mr Brown has played with a number of clubs in both Central West Rugby League and Group 10.

His current team, his beloved Blayney Bears, describe him as 'freak on the field' and the club's 'ray of sunshine'. They are shocked by the news.

"The whole club and town are in shock and I still can not believe this is happening," club secretary Lisa Osborn told SBS News.

The club is organising counselling for all of its players.

"Terry attracted players to our club and he also was excited to be playing with his older brother Bobby this season as well with us. He was a great influence at training also especially with our less experienced players. He had a cheeky grin that all the girls could not resist," she said.
Mr Brown’s Facebook page has since been flooded with tributes holding out hope for his safe return.

Mr Brown worked at CareWest in Orange and CEO Tim Curran told local media his disappearance was 'tragic'.

"This has impacted the CareWest community," he said.

The search, now in its third day, includes police helicopters, water police, local surf lifesaving, water vessels and SES volunteers.

Acting superintendent Fidock will make a decision about whether to continue the search after Tuesday.

“We’ll reassess the search and search areas, and what we’ve done and where we’re up to. Each day it’s a reassessment, what are we gonna do the next day,” he said.
