A young pilot who died in a plane crash in rugged Tasmanian wilderness was a much-loved member of the island state's flying community.

Nikita Walker, 30, was flying solo when her twin-engine aircraft crashed near the summit of West Portal, in the Western Arthur Range in the state's southwest on Saturday.

Ms Walker, who was from Queensland, moved to Tasmania several years ago to train as a pilot with charter company Par Avion.

Shannon Wells, managing director of Par Avion parent company Airlines of Tasmania, said the business had been inundated with messages of support.

"She loved what she did. And it shows her character," he said.

Mr Wells said the company was providing counselling for staff who are in shock over her sudden death.

Police released Ms Walker's name on Monday after her family had travelled from interstate.

Investigations are continuing into what caused the plane to go down on a routine flight to pick up passengers from Melaleuca.

The plane went missing around 8.30am on Saturday. Its wreckage was spotted from the air that evening.

Mr Wells previously said Ms Walker was well versed in flying in Tasmanian conditions and had been with the company for three years.

"We are mourning the loss of a great member of our team who was not only a work colleague but a much loved friend to everyone at the airline," he said on Sunday.

The plane's emergency location transmitter was on Sunday recovered from the wreckage and will be examined in Hobart.

"Our thoughts are with Nikita's family and her loved ones at this difficult time," police said in a statement.
