'Trolling' over Brexit? The Queen's hat resembles EU flag

Was it merely a fashion choice to wear a hat that closely resembled the European Union flag in her Queen's speech?

Normally Queen Elizabeth II wears her crown upon her head, but this year’s Queen Speech was a more casual affair.

The Queen ditched her crown and carriage for a “day dress” and car, but it was the Queen’s choice of hat that sparked an online debate.

While the Queen read out eight bills the UK government will pass to remove Britain from the EU, her blue dress and hat drew attention for closely resembling the EU flag. But was she trying to put her position on the record?

Commentators had thought the Queen had been in favour of Brexit.

The crown was still very much a part of proceedings, travelling in its own car to Parliament from the Tower of London.

It was carried into the ceremony by an officer of state and placed on a stand in front of the Queen. The Sword of State and Cap of Maintenance were also carried.

The Queen then rushed off to the Royal Ascot Races where she changed into a yellow dress, this time there was no hint of blue.
