Truck driver killed at Rio Tinto WA mine

A truck driver has died at a Rio Tinto iron ore mine in Western Australia's Pilbara region after his vehicle veered off a haul road.

A worker killed at a mine in Western Australia's north was behind the wheel of a truck which veered off a haul road.

The incident happened about 11pm on Wednesday at Rio Tinto's Paraburdoo-Channar iron ore project, where operations have ceased, the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety confirmed on Thursday.

The department is investigating and mining company has sent its condolences to the man's family, friends and colleagues.
