Truckie deaths push national toll to 37

As two died in a collision on NSW roads on Tuesday, the Christmas and New Year national road toll reached 37.

Tragedy has struck 37 times on Australia's roads over the past 12 days, with a collision between two truck drivers in NSW the latest in a string of fatalities.

The two truckies died at the scene after their vehicles crashed into each other at Stanbridge, near Griffith, on Tuesday.

Their deaths have brought the NSW road toll to 11 for the holiday period between December 23 and January 3.

Tasmania and ACT remained fatality free, but all other states and territories have seen carnage.

Victoria lost nine lives, Western Australia and Queensland six each, South Australia four, and one in the Northern Territory.

On Monday, a 28-year-old was rushed to hospital after a single-car crash near Coffs Harbour in NSW but died shortly after he arrived.

The same day in WA, a 24-year-old crashed his ute into a tree on an unsealed road in Hoffman, south of Perth and died at the scene.

Infants are among the victims, with a Sydney toddler run over in a driveway on New Year's Eve and a seven-month-old Queensland baby run killed when his mother reversed into his pram.
