Mr Trudeau and his family have been on a week-long tour of India to strengthen investment between the two nations.
But it's his wardrobe that has received significant attention, with some social media users likening his clothing choices to those worn by actors in Bollywood films.
The Trudeaus commissioned some of India's top designers to create outfits for their trip, keeping custom to wearing culturally-appropriate clothes.
Mr Trudeau's choices were even described as "too Indian even for an Indian," by local media Outlook India.
Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, commented that the attire was "a bit much".
One of the tipping points for social media was when Mr Trudeau met several Bollywood stars in the western city of Mumbai, but his elaborate sherwani - a long-sleeved outer garment - stood out because the actors were wearing black suits.
During his visit, Mr Trudeau has been on a mission to quash long-simmering perceptions in India that his administration is soft on Sikh extremists.
He admitted Thursday that a convicted Sikh extremist had been invited to dine with him in New Delhi.
He said the invitation to Jaspal Atwal - who was found guilty of trying to assassinate an Indian minister in 1986 - had been revoked and those at fault had taken responsibility.
"Obviously, we take this situation extremely seriously," he told reporters in New Delhi.
"The individual in question never should have received an invitation and as soon as we found out we rescinded the invitation immediately."
This latest scandal emerges on the eve of his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been notably absent during Mr Trudeau's week-long trip throughout India with his family.
