Trump-branded buildings being renamed

About 600 residents of three luxury apartments have successfully signed a petition calling for Donald Trump's name to be stripped from the buildings.

Donald Trump's name is being stripped off three New York City luxury apartment buildings after hundreds of tenants signed a petition saying they were embarrassed to live in a place associated with the president-elect.

About 600 residents of the three rental towers in Trump Place signed the online petition.

The company that owns and manages the skyscrapers has informed tenants the huge gold letters spelling out "Trump Place" will be removed.

A spokesman for Chicago-based owner Equity Residential says the buildings will be known by their street addresses.

Several neighbouring towers that also bear the Trump Place name but have different owners are sticking with the Trump brand.

Trump was asked on CBS's 60 Minutes whether his campaign comments had hurt his brand and he replied, "Who cares?"

A Trump spokeswoman did not return a message seeking comment.
