US President Donald Trump says he has cancelled his planned military parade scheduled for November and will instead visit Paris to commemorate Veterans Day.

On Twitter, Trump blamed high costs for nixing the event and accused local politicians of price-gouging, although the projected $US92 million ($A127 million) cost was largely attributed to Pentagon costs for aircraft, equipment and personnel.
On Thursday, the Defense Department said it had postponed the event until at least next year.
