Trump deserves credit for Korean talks:ALP

Labor has joined Malcolm Turnbull in giving US President Donald Trump credit for the historic talks between the leaders of North and South Korea.

Labor's defence spokesman Richard Marles isn't a fan of Donald Trump's diplomacy by tweet but does believe the US president deserves credit for the historic talks between the leaders of North and South Korea.

"I think the fundamental strategy of presenting a harder edge to North Korea on the one hand and seeking to engage China on the other, has been really critical here. That is the way in which the Trump administration have gone about it. They deserve credit," he told ABC television on Sunday.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull on Saturday also thought Mr Trump "absolutely" deserves credit for the talks between South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un which sought an agreement to establish peace on the peninsula.
