President Donald Trump has told supporters he urged Senate Republicans to add more money to their healthcare plan because he wants a plan with "heart".

Trump told a campaign-style rally in Iowa on Wednesday night: "I've been talking about a plan with heart. I said, 'Add some money to it!'"

He also suggested he would be willing to change the bill Republicans were crafting if Democrats would come onboard.

He said "a few votes from the Democrats, it could be so easy" and "so beautiful".

Republicans have been working on a plan to repeal and replace former President Barack Obama's signature healthcare law.
