Trump wants immigrants from 'everywhere'

The US should have immigrants from "everywhere" says Donald Trump, amid an ongoing furore over his alleged vulgar description of some African countries.

President Donald Trump, asked whether he wanted more immigrants from Norway, says he wants the United States to draw immigrants from nations around the world.

"I want them to come in from everywhere," Trump told reporters on Tuesday.

Democratic Senator Dick Durbin said last week that Trump had repeatedly use the word "sh**hole" when speaking about African countries and the Caribbean nation of Haiti.

Trump has denied using that language.

Earlier on Tuesday the White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Trump is "not going to apologise for trying to fix our immigration system".

Sanders told reporters on Monday that Trump "hasn't said he didn't use strong language" in the meeting with bipartisan in the heated immigration debate last week.

Responding to Democrats' assertions that Trump's comments were "racist", Sanders calls the claim "outrageous", citing their previous embrace of Trump.

"Why did NBC give him a show for a decade on TV? Why did Chuck Schumer and all of his colleagues come and beg Donald Trump for money?"

US Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said she didn't hear Trump use the word.

Nielsen, testifying before the Senate Judiciary committee on Tuesday, said she remembered strong language and profanity being used during the meeting but did not recall how Trump described African countries.
