Stefanos Tsitsipas' best-ever run at an ATP Tour Masters event has continued after he rallied to upset defending champion Alexander Zverev and advance to the semi-finals of the Rogers Cup in Toronto.
The 19-year-old Greek produced a stunning comeback, saving two match points en route to beating the second-seeded German 3-6 7-6 (13-11) 6-4.
Tsitsipas, the world No.27, is now the youngest player to conquer three top 10 ranked opponents in the same tournament since Rafael Nadal at Monte Carlo in 2006.
He faced elimination at 2-5 down in the second set but recovered to eventually rack up 28 winners in a contest which lasted two hours and 27 minutes.
"Achieving such things makes me feel nice," Tsitsipas said.
"I'm very proud of who I am and at this age to have these kind of results, which I never expected. I always thought it's going to be take more years for this to happen.
"I believe I have the game to compete against these players. I'm feeling very confident."
Before this week Tsitsipas had never advanced past the second round of one of the ATPs nine masters events, the biggest tournaments outside the four grand slams.
Tsitsipas, who disposed of world No.8 Dominic Thiem and Novak Djokovic (No.10) earlier in the tournament, now bids to become the youngest player to claims four successive Top 10 wins at the same event since the ATP World Tour was established in 1990 when he takes on South African Kevin Anderson.
Anderson, the runner-up at Wimbledon, brushed aside Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov 6-2 6-2.
Tsitsipas won his only previous meeting with the world No.6 at the Millennium Estoril Open in May, but took nothing for granted.
"Kevin is a very tough opponent to face on hard courts. He has a huge serve. He can be really dangerous," he said.
"So again, I'm walking into (the match) with low expectations. I know he's the favourite again."
In other quarter-final action Nadal subdued Croatia's Marin Cilic 6-2 6-4 6-4 so the Spaniard will face Russian Karen Khachanov, who blasted Dutchman Robin Haase 6-3 6-1.
