Tsukahara, Godwin win all-around titles

Queenslander Naoya Tsukahara claims a fifth national men's all-around gymnastics title while Victoria's Georgia Godwin wins her first women's title.

Queenslanders Naoya Tsukahara and Georgia Godwin won the all-around crowns at the Australian Gymnastics Championships at Hisense Arena in Melbourne on Friday night.

Tsukahara claimed an incredible fifth title in six years with an all-around score of 172.881 points to finish ahead of New Zealand's Mikhail Koudinov (166.297) and Queensland teammate Michael Mercieca (166.112).

Competing at the nationals at senior level for just the second time, 16-year-old Godwin claimed the women's title with a score of 108.425 after finishing third in 2013.

Last year's champion Madelaine Leydin of Victoria was second with 105.225, while her teammate Kiara Muntenau was third with 104.725.

The championships are also serving as Commonwealth Games selection trials.
