A year on from the tsunami and earthquake that hit Japan, a documentary by Grammy-nominated singer Sara Bareilles is set to debut in Washington.

Just a few months after Japan was devastated by the natural disasters, Bareilles kept her scheduled tour dates in the country and volunteered in the clean-up effort. She documented her journey, hoping to raise awareness about Japan's victims and the recovery efforts.

The film will be played at the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, which attracts more than a million people each year.

The festival runs over five weeks in March and April, and this year will celebrate the centennial anniversary of the gift of 3,000 cherry blossom trees from Japan to the United States.
