Defending champion Lesia Tsurenko has advanced to the Mexico Open final after beating Australian third seed Daria Gavrilova 6-2 6-4.

The seventh-seeded Ukrainian will face Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland in the hardcourt decider in Acapulco.

Voegele beat Swede Rebecca Peterson 6-4 7-6 (7-5) to reach her first WTA Tour final.

Tsurenko led 5-0 in the second set before finally finishing off Gavrilova on the seventh match point.

"It was just getting more and more tough in the second set because her defence was just amazing," Tsurenko said.

She won last year in Acapulco for her third WTA title.

In the men's semi-finals, sixth-seeded Argentine Juan Martin del Potro beat No.2 seed Alexander Zverev of Germany 6-4 6-2 to reach the decider.

In the earlier semi, South Africa fifth seed Kevin Anderson outlasted American Jared Donaldson 6-3 4-6 6-3.

Anderson won the New York Open two weeks ago for his fourth career title.
