North Queensland could be headed for a potential stand-off with Australian coach Mal Meninga over Johnathan Thurston's availability for next weekend's Test against New Zealand.
Thurston is racing the clock to be fit for Friday's NRL clash against Parramatta in Townsville after spending the last two weeks on the sideline with a calf complaint.
Cowboys coach Paul Green has hinted he would move to prevent Thurston from turning out for Australia if he didn't play against the Eels.
