Warriors and Kiwis No.1 Roger Tuivasa-Sheck has been named the NRL club's captain for 2017, taking over from Ryan Hoffman.

The 23-year-old fullback joined the club from Sydney Roosters at the start of 2016 and made seven appearances before suffering a season-ending ACL tear.

He missed last year's Four Nations campaign and will not play at this weekend's Auckland Nines tournament.

But he is likely to make his competitive return to action as skipper, leading the side out for their NRL round one fixture against the Knights on March 5.

"Roger offers all the qualities we want from our players," coach Stephen Kearney said.

"He's a true professional in the way he goes about all he does, providing a wonderful example for players to follow."

Tuivasa-Sheck will serve as the club's 11th captain since inception in 1995, and will have former skipper Simon Mannering alongside him as vice-captain.

Mannering, 30, was captain for six years before stepping down from the role in 2016, and ran the side out in the 2011 NRL grand final.

Tuivasa-Sheck, who won the 2013 Premiership with the Roosters, said he was humbled to be given the role and hoped to be the club's first title-winning captain.

"It's a huge privilege to be captain of my club and I'm excited about taking on the added responsibility," Tuivasa-Sheck said.

"I want to do all I can to help the Warriors become the club we all want it to be."
