Turnbull appoints CEO of new planning body

A lead consultant for the London Olympic Delivery Authority has been appointed as the CEO of a new body which will oversee Sydney's development.

Lucy Turnbull has chosen a founding member of the London Olympics planning team to manage a new body charged with overseeing planning and development across Sydney.

Sarah Hill, who worked as a lead consultant for the London Olympic Delivery Authority and has worked in several planning advisory roles for the NSW government, has been appointed Chief Executive of the Greater Sydney Commission.

Ms Hill will be required to report to the prime minister's wife and chief commissioner of the new agency, Ms Turnbull.

The body has the support of NSW Labor but the Greens say it removes democratic process from the local government level because it can overrule council zoning decisions.
