Malcolm Turnbull has confirmed he was sounded out for the job of Australian ambassador to the US but declined because it wasn't "his cup of tea".
Mr Turnbull's name was in the mix as the Abbott government earlier in the year considered a replacement for former Labor leader Kim Beazley who is due to leave the Washington post at the end of the year.
"I cannot imagine circumstances where I would want to be an ambassador," the prime minister told 3AW radio on Tuesday.
