Turnbull in Brisbane but no plans for Hanson meeting

The prime minister says talks with crossbenchers do not take away from the fact he believes he will form majority government.

Malcolm Turnbull says he is "very confident" of forming majority government as federal election counting continues.

The prime minister, who is in Brisbane on Thursday to thank coalition supporters and meet with crossbench members, said a number of seat counts were close.

"I am very confident indeed that we will form a majority government in our own right, but I am talking to the crossbenchers as well - as I would do regardless of what our own numbers in the house amounted to," he said.

He will be having direct talks with Bob Katter later on Thursday.

Asked if he would be meeting with Pauline Hanson, whose One Nation party has secured seats in the Senate, Mr Turnbull said: "I have no plans to do that today, no."
