The death of four people in the recent West Australian bushfires is a tragedy, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has told parliament.

He also praised the service and bravery of firefighters who helped battle the Esperance blaze and kept their communities safe.

"The tragedy of people going about their daily lives in a farming community ... only to be confronted by a firestorm drives home to all of us the very grave dangers to life and property as the bushfire season is upon us," Mr Turnbull told parliament on Monday.
