Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has spoken with Theresa May about trade opportunities and plans for April's CHOGM summit in London.

Malcolm Turnbull and Theresa May have discussed plans for an ambitious meeting to reinvigorate the Commonwealth.

The Australian and UK prime ministers spoke overnight about the April CHOGM summit in London, as well as trade opportunities following Brexit.

"Before the call ended, Mrs May welcomed Australia's recent decision to legalise same-sex marriage and wished Australia luck for their hosting of the upcoming Commonwealth Games," a Downing Street spokesperson said.
