Opposition frontbencher Anthony Albanese would be flattered if the Turnbull government mimicked his cities policies, but it would first have to restore funding to the urban policy agenda set up by Labor.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull announced on Friday his aspiration for a fast train between Sydney and the second airport at Badgerys Creek and plans for 30-minute cities - where no-one would travel more than a half-an-hour to work.

"If they adopt our policy we're happy with that, but before they get any credit for new initiatives, they need to start by putting funding back ... that they cut in the 2014 budget," Labor's infrastructure spokesman told Sky News on Sunday.
