Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull says he is optimistic of a good outcome at the Paris climate talks.

Mr Turnbull will leave Canberra on Thursday for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Malta before taking part in the United Nations climate summit in Paris.

World leaders he had met with at the recent G20 summit in Turkey were as "close to unanimous as you could imagine" in wanting to secure a deal in Paris to cut global emissions.

"Everyone is committed to achieving a good outcome in Paris," he told ABC's 730 program.

"I am optimistic."
