Turnbull: Qld govt lacks 'wit' on power

Malcolm Turnbull says he can't support the Queensland Labor government's power plan ahead of the state opposition's plan for another coal-fired power station.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull says the Queensland Labor government lacks the "wit" to manage their power grid properly, as he spends a second day in the state ahead of a possible state election.

Mr Turnbull made an appearance at the Gateway Motorway North upgrade site at Nudgee, alongside state opposition Tim Nicholls, whom he endorsed strongly as an alternate premier.

The prime minister has been a big supporter of the LNP's plan to build another coal-fired power station in North Queensland and scrap state Labor's 50 per cent renewable energy target.
