He tells everyone else it's the most exciting time to be an Australian, but for Malcolm Turnbull one of his most exciting moments was walking through a Jakarta textile market.

The prime minister told parliament on Tuesday he'd never seen so many people or anxious security officers than during his walk with President Joko Widodo less than a fortnight ago.

"It was one of the most exciting moments I'd ever had in political life," he said.
