Turnbull, Shorten fail to agree on MP plan

Labor and the government have not agreed on a way forward to deal with fiasco over MP citizenship.

Malcolm Turnbull says Labor has sought more time to consider his plan for MPs to disclose details about their eligibility, but it will be sorted by the end of the year.

The prime minister and Labor leader Bill Shorten met in Melbourne on Wednesday to discuss the plan, but failed to reach complete agreement on the way forward.

"We would, before Christmas, have all of that disclosed information ... and then decide who to refer, if any, to the High Court," Mr Turnbull told reporters in Melbourne.
