Turnbull sticks by 'bedrock' US alliance

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull won't comment on reports US President Donald Trump gave highly classified information about Islamic State to Russia.

Malcolm Turnbull continues to have confidence in Australia's alliance with the United States despite reports Donald Trump shared highly classified information with Russia's foreign minister.

The prime minister said he would maintain "my normal circumspection and discretion" on classified matters and had no concerns about the alliance.

"It is the bedrock of our national security and it was reinforced yet again when President Trump and I met on the Intrepid in New York just a few days ago," he told Adelaide's 5AA radio on Tuesday.
