Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has arrived in Manila where he is due to talk terrorism and a Syria solution with US President Barack Obama.

The two leaders will hold their first one-on-one meeting on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation summit in Manila on Tuesday afternoon.

It will be closely watched for indications of whether Australia will expand its involvement in Syria.

A smiling Mr Turnbull did not take questions from reporters as he arrived at his hotel in the Philippines capital.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop expects the Paris attacks, and a European response to the conflict in Syria and Iraq to tackle Islamic State will be a pivotal part of the two leaders' talks.
