Malcolm Turnbull will meet with the Tennant Creek mayor in Canberra on Monday to discuss child protection in the Northern Territory.

Child abuse in the territory has been in the spotlight after the rape of a two-year-old girl in February.

The prime minister will visit the Northern Territory in August.
