Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has wished Australia's Muslim community a blessed and joyful end to Ramadan.
"From my family to yours, Eid Mubarak," he said in a statement on Sunday evening.
The prime minister described Ramadan - the month in which Muslims fast from food and water between dawn and sunset - as a time of spiritual renewal and recommitment to the values of gratitude, charity, and compassion.
"Eid al-Fitr is a special day to join with family and friends to share a festive meal, exchange gifts and extend the hand of charity," he said.
Mr Turnbull also spent his Sunday making a visit to the St Mark Coptic Orthodox Church in Sydney, with his wife Lucy.
Last year, he became the first Australian prime minister to host an iftar, or meal breaking the Ramadan fast, when he held a dinner at his Kirribilli home.
The guest list included Gold Logie winner Waleed Aly and his wife Susan Carland, AFL player Bachar Houli and author and mechanical engineer Yassmin Abdel-Magied.
