Malcolm Turnbull faces a barrage of problems if he scrapes home in the federal election, Bill Shorten says.

The Labor leader said the prime minister would be "hostage" to right-wing politicians such as Pauline Hanson and face a lack of confidence from within coalition ranks.

"If Mr Turnbull does scrape home, his problems have only just begun," Mr Shorten told reporters in Launceston on Wednesday.
