Malcolm Turnbull's new look ministry will take their place on the front bench when parliament resumes on Monday.

The prime minister's team were sworn-in in mid-September.

Mr Turnbull's predecessor Tony Abbott is expected to return to the back bench after not being seen in the House of Representatives chamber in the week he was deposed.

Mr Abbott is yet to make a decision on his future, but former treasurer Joe Hockey is predicted to soon bid farewell to politics.

Trade deals and counter-terrorism issues are set to dominate the week.

Debate on the China free trade agreement will resume on Tuesday, and on Thursday security chiefs will meet to discuss what more can be done to counter the spread of violent extremism.
