North Melbourne youngster Kayne Turner's season to forget has continued, with the midfielder ruled out for five weeks.

The 20-year-old injured his hamstring in the reserves on Saturday and could miss the rest of the AFL season as a result.

Turner had missed the last 11 weeks with a hamstring complaint, and played just his second VFL match on his road back to senior selection.

"It hasn't been a great year for Kayne for a number of reasons and this latest setback is frustrating for him," North Melbourne football boss Geoff Walsh told the club's website.

"Early estimates are for a five-week rehabilitation period so he could be back before the finals if all goes well."

Turner was slapped with a four-week suspension by his club after a drink-driving charge, which he was to serve after his recovery from injury

It remains to be seen whether Turner will be seen again in North's colours his season after the setback.

He re-joins North Melbourne's long injury list.

Brad Scott's side has several key players in a race against time to be fit again this season.

Ben Jacobs (foot - 3 weeks) and Sam Wright (ankle - 3 weeks) look certain to return during the regular season.

Shaun Higgins (knee - 4 weeks), Luke McDonald (hamstring - 4 weeks), Aaron Black (ankle - 4 weeks), Farren Ray (hamstring - 5 weeks) and Turner are all touch and go.

Mason Wood (knee - 7 weeks) may have played his last match of the season with just six rounds remaining and North Melbourne's finals hopes conditional on a late-season form swing.
