South Sydney back-rower Kyle Turner's determination to fight his way back from a career-threatening neck injury has been rewarded with a two-year NRL contract extension.
The Rabbitohs on Thursday announced the 2014 premiership-winning forward had committed to the club until the end of 2017.
The 23-year-old Turner hurt his neck representing the Indigenous All Stars at the start of the year and underwent disc-replacement surgery in his neck.
After fearing his career was in jeopardy, he fought his way back to fitness and returned to the NRL in round 21 wearing a large neck brace.
"Kyle has been an inspiration to not only his teammates and the staff here at the Rabbitohs, but to the members and the community as well," Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire said.
"You saw that by the response he received when he ran back on the field for the first time after his injury.
"His work ethic is second-to-none."
Turner has played 30 NRL matches since making his first-grade debut against the Wests Tigers last year.
