A teenager and a man have been arrested over a fire that has destroyed at least one home in Sydney's west.

The blaze began in the Llandilo area at 2pm on Friday, with properties, schools and nursing homes evacuated, police say.

The 17-year-old boy and 21-year-old man were arrested at a nearby service station hours later.

They have not yet been charged.
