Two men have been arrested at a March For Men demonstration in Melbourne, with two others fined for carrying knives.

A 25-year-old from Murrumbeena and a 33-year-old from Ringwood attending the rally at Federation Square on Saturday were arrested in relation to wilful damage and riotous behaviour respectively.

Neither has been charged at this stage.

Victoria Police say officers searched more than 270 protesters during the event and found two men carrying knives.

The majority of people at the protest were well behaved, police said.

The 'March For Men Australia' Facebook Page says the rally was to protest "constant societal messaging of how undesirable it is to be a man" and to show men "that they matter and their issues matter".
