Two Australian Navy sailors have been arrested in Singapore over separate alcohol-related incidents, the defence force has confirmed.

One sailor was arrested for allegedly being "a public nuisance" on Saturday, while another was taken into custody over alleged intoxication on Friday.

An ADF spokeswoman said both sailors, from HMAS Toowoomba and Success, had been released to Australian officials in Singapore while local authorities complete their investigation.

"Defence expects its members to act appropriately and respectfully when visiting foreign countries and takes instances of misbehaviour very seriously," the spokeswoman said in a statement.

"Any member who does not act appropriately will be subject to the Defence Force Discipline Act and, if applicable, local laws."
