Two climbers killed in Yosemite fall

Two climbers have been killed while attempting to scale the El Capitan monolith in California's Yosemite National Park, the most difficult climb in the world.

Two climbers have died after falling while climbing the El Capitan granite monolith in California's Yosemite National Park.

The climbers fell from the Freeblast Route on Saturday, the National Park Service said in a statement.

The accident was being investigated and no information about the climbers' identities was released.

Their deaths come less than two weeks after a hiker died in the park after falling off a cliff during wet conditions.

Yosemite is known for its dramatic rock faces and waterfalls that attract more than four million visitors each year from around the world.

El Capitan is a point of pilgrimage for rock climbers and base jumpers from around the world and is considered the hardest rock climb in the world.

El Capitan rises about a kilometre above the Yosemite Valley floor.
