Two dead in Stockholm truck crash: police

At least two people are dead after a truck crashed through a crowd of people and into a downtown department store in central Stockholm.

At least two people are dead and many injured after a truck drove into a crowd in the centre of Sweden's capital Stockholm, Swedish security police say.

Body-like forms covered by blankets were seen on Drottninggatan in central Stockholm where the truck rammed the Ahlens department on Friday afternoon, a Reuters witness said.

Swedish radio earlier said three people had been killed in the crash and Swedish broadcaster SVT said shots were fired. People in the area were fleeing the scene.

The Swedish news agency TT reported several people were rushed away in ambulances, and live television footage showed smoke coming out of the department store that the truck smashed into.

Swedish police said they received calls about a person who has injured others driving a vehicle on the central Stockholm street of Drottninggatan.

Swedish police also issued a warning to avoid Stockholm city centre.

Pictures on social media showed the lorry had crashed into the corner of Mall with its cab on fire.

An Aftonbladet reporter on the scene said police suspected the crash was terror related.
