Two dead on Aust roads ahead of Easter

One person in the NSW Hunter region and another in eastern Victoria have died in car crashes as holiday makers set out for the Easter long weekend.

A man has died in a two-vehicle crash in the NSW Hunter region, the second fatality on Australian roads ahead of the Easter long weekend.

The 27-year-old died when his car collided with a ute at about 6am on Thursday in Clarence Town, police say.

The uninjured 30-year-old ute driver has been taken to Maitland hospital for mandatory testing.

In east Victoria, a person died after a single vehicle crash early on Thursday morning.

The person was found dead near the crash in Bowser, near Wangaratta, while a man located inside the vehicle and was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
