Two people have died in two separate car crashes on NSW's roads, with one multi-vehicle crash trapping a person in their car and blocking the Hume Highway.

The multi-vehicle pile-up left one person dead and another person trapped near Mittagong early on Saturday morning.

The crash happened shortly before 4.30am, when a car and a petrol tanker collided at Colo Vale; a third vehicle was then hit.

The first car rolled several times before coming to rest in the median strip.

The driver of that vehicle died at the scene while emergency services have been working to free a trapped passenger in the second car.

Earlier on Friday evening a man, 38, died on NSW's Central Coast after being thrown from his car.

It is thought the man's car left the road in Mandalong, rolled and he was ejected from the vehicle, to be found by a passing motorist.
