Two dead, several hurt after NSW crashes

Two elderly people have been killed and several others, including an eight-year-old boy, have been hurt in car crashes across NSW.

An elderly woman and an elderly man have been killed and several people, including an eight-year-old boy, have been injured in separate car accidents across NSW.

A 78-year-old man who was driving north in the southbound lane on the M5 at Casula collided his hatchback with a BMW in the early hours of Saturday, police say.

He died at the scene while his female passenger was taken to Liverpool Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the BMW and a passenger were also injured and were taken to Westmead Hospital.

Southbound lanes on the M5 remain closed as specialist police investigate.

A woman in her 70s has also died after crashing head on into a truck on the Princes Highway south of Nowra early on Friday afternoon.

She died at the Tomerong scene and her elderly male passenger was taken to Shoalhaven Hospital.

The 50-year-old truck driver wasn't hurt.

Investigations are continuing and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

Shortly after the fatal collision at near Nowra an eight-year-old boy

was seriously injured when he was hit by a four-wheel drive while trying to run across a main road to his home at Fitzroy Falls, near Bowral.

The boy was treated by paramedics and taken to Westmead Children's Hospital in a serious condition.

The 48-year-old lady driving the 4WD wasn't inured.

Police are investigating the accident and want anyone with information to come forward.
