Two die in NSW light plane crash

A light plane has crashed in NSW killing two people on board.

Two people have died in a light plane crash metres from a major highway on the NSW mid-north coast.

The plane crashed in bushland near the Pacific Highway, north of Johns River, about 4pm on Saturday.

The only two people aboard were killed in the crash, police say.

The plane was reportedly travelling between Toowoomba and Taree.

Police are preparing a report for the coroner, while the Australian Transport Safety Bureau will undertake an investigation into the crash.
