Two young sisters have drowned in a backyard swimming pool south of Brisbane, with authorities looking into how they accessed the fenced off area.
The sisters, four-year-old Taya Young and three-year-old Patricia Young, were playing in the backyard of their home in the Logan suburb of Kingston when they somehow got into the pool area.
Inspector Glenn Allen said the pair could not be saved by their parents after their five-year-old sister raised the alarm.
"The two young girls were taken out of the pool by their parents and given CPR. The ambulance officers responded but were unable to revive them," he told Nine Network.
The girls' grandfather Peter Brown told reporters their father and mother have been left devastated.

"He's cut up something terrible, and she's just as bad, cause she had to dive in the pool to get them out," Mr Brown said.
"They'd just finished cleaning the pool to go swimming, it had regulation fencing all around it, so I don't know how they got in."
Police are investigating whether the girls used a nearby outdoor chair or a trampoline to access the pool area.
"It doesn't appear to be suspicious, however we have to do our investigations. We have our child protection officers here at the moment," Inspector Allen said.
Logan City Council officers are also investigating, with a report to be prepared for the coroner.
