Two people in critical after car hits tree

Four people have been taken to hospital after two serious road accidents north of Brisbane.

Two people are fighting for life after a car hit a tree on Bribie Island, north of Brisbane.

Queensland Ambulance tweeted that the car struck the tree at 3.40pm at Bongaree on Friday and two critically injured patients had been taken to Royal Brisbane Hospital.

A third person was transported to Princess Alexandra.

It was the second major accident in the region within hours after a truck hit a car at Gootchie, about 200km north of Brisbane, where one person was airlifted to RBH with multiple fractures and a head injury.

Police say both drivers were female but were unable to provide further details.
