Two women die in separate Vic crashes

Two women are dead after losing control of their cars and hitting trees in separate incidents in Victoria.

Two women have died in separate single-vehicle crashes in Victoria's north.

A woman died at the scene after her sedan lost control and hit a tree near Tatura about 3.30am (AEDT) on Thursday.

Four other occupants of the vehicle were taken to Goulburn Valley Health hospital for treatment.

In a separate incident, another female driver failed to negotiate a road bend, lost control and hit a tree at Merbein just before midnight.

The female driver, and only occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene.

Victoria's road toll now stands at 17 compared to 11 at this time last year.
