Two women killed in Qld car crashes

Two women have died in separate crashes on Queensland roads.

A woman has been killed in a car crash east of Lockhart River in north Queensland.

It's believed the car she was travelling in left the road and collided with a tree at about 2.30pm on Monday.

The woman, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The car's driver, a 34-year-old man, was flown to Cairns Base Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

It came hours after another crash, which left an elderly driver dead and a policeman injured in hospital.

Police say the woman's car drifted onto the wrong side of the road, colliding head-on with a police car shortly before 11am at Mullet Creek, north of Bundaberg.

The elderly motorist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Members of her family were travelling in a nearby car after a camping trip, the Bundaberg News Mail reports.

The policeman suffered a suspected broken leg.
