"I am sure everyone will be working as hard as they possibly can in pre-season just to kick on off the back of this," Calvert-Lewin told The Telegraph.

"And they'll be looking to get in the first teams of their respective clubs and do what they can to progress."

Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman spent last season on loan at Scottish side Kilmarnock and said younger players would benefit from spells away for their parent club if they got first-team football.

"I don't think I could have performed as well as I have here (in South Korea) without going on loan and playing at Kilmarnock as well as I did there," Woodman said.
