The United Arab Emirates is building a sustainable town called Masdar City in Abu Dhabi.
The new town is being developed in stages and already boasts the region's largest solar plant, with the town producing more energy than they've used so far.
Currently in the city a 'beam-down project' uses mirrors to concentrate the rays of the sun, superheating water to generate power.
Australian director Alan Frost said Masdar City is a vision of what future cities will look like. The aim for Masdar City is to have 40,000 residents living in the town by 2030, and for the city to be commercially viable.
